Marjolein van der Wal, (oprichtster van creatief collectief Les Avant nu) is goed bezig!
Ze heeft meegedaan aan een ontwerp wedstrijd en wint eerst de landelijke prijs, en vervolgens wint ze in Nieuw Zeeland de WOW Award.

Al sinds 1987 is De Brancott Estate World of WearableArt (WOW) een jaarlijks terugkerend internationaal evenement dat wordt gehouden in Wellington, Nieuw Zeeland. Het evenement is ontstaan uit het verlangen een nieuwe cross-over tussen kunst en mode.

Het kostuum met de naam: Hide in my Boneshadow van Marjolein van der Wal is door de jury van WOW gekozen als  eerste in de categorie Gen–I Creative Excellence: Under the microscop. Daarnaast heeft zij met het kostuum de tweede prijs gewonnnen in de prestigieuze Ultimate Brancott Estate WOW Supreme Award, dit is de overkoepelende prijs uit de zeven secties.

Hide in my Boneshadow is opgebouwd als een botachtige structuur, waarvoor het exoskelet van insecten de inspiratiebron is geweest. Het is ontstaan uit een verlangen naar bescherming, een barrière die de prikkels van buitenaf dooft. Een pantser dat kracht uitstraalt maar bestaat uit zachte materialen.  “De inzending van Marjolein heeft een grote beeldende kracht en daardoor een bijzondere stage appearence, daarnaast een sterk kleurpalet en laat tenslotte een bijzonder gebruik aan materialen zien”, aldus Suzie Moncrieff, oprichtster en jurylid van WOW.

Marjolein  opereert in Amsterdam onder de naam Mar-vellous waarbij zij grenzen op zoekt tussen mode en  kunst. Daarnaast is ze initiator van kunstenaarscollectief Les Avant Nu, bekend om zijn  expressieve, dynamische shows.

Valtifest, Meubel Stukken en MTV hebben opnieuw de handen ineen geslagen voor een superleuk Valtifeestje genaamd Valtifashion, de uitsmijter van de Amsterdam International Fashion Week.

Valtifashion wordt muzikaal geopend door Teenage Lady Killers, de twee
golden boys van de Nederlandse metropolische underground met hun
aanstekelijke mix van garage rock, hiphop, new wave en disco.

Daarna wordt aan de ‘Avonturen van Nobody Beats The Drum‘-film een nieuw
hoofdstuk toegevoegd, waarbij onze dappere snaken een superspannende
wereld ontdekken, namelijk die van de Mode… Dus hou je vast voor de
aanstekelijke, visuele alive-show van deze Valtifest favorieten.

Joost van Bellen is met z’n Star Studded Studio de afgelopen weken van
Berlijn naar Parijs naar Amsterdam naar London naar Parijs en weer terug
naar Amsterdam gevlogen om de vele catwalks van showmuziek te voorzien. Hij
is er dus helemaal klaar voor om de drukste modemaand van 2011 af te sluiten
met een mega-Knaller.

Het muzikale hoogtepunt van de avond wordt ongetwijfeld de special fashion
music dj-set van Valtifest legende Larry Tee (NY), bekend van zijn hits
met oa Princess Superstar, Ru-Paul, Lady Gaga en Roisin Murphy.

Dit alles wordt in goede vocale banen geleid door de Dutch Diva of Dance
Miss Bunty, voor de gelegenheid gestyled door Bas Kosters Studio

VJ Martin Duvall zorgt voor de modishhysterische beelden.

Een spraakmakende show mag natuurlijk niet ontbreken op Valtifashion.

En wat is het slot van een International Fashion Week zonder een bruidsshow!
Patrick ‘No Limits’ Moonen, bekend van ‘Shampoo Planet’ en tevens het
brein achter de ‘Teenies Place’-area op Valtifest presenteert ‘Break a Leg’
Bridal Show. De getoonde creaties zijn onderdeel van het label ‘Fag Rag’ en
zijn een ode aan de monumentale werken van Alexander McQueen, Vivienne
Westwood en Jean-Paul Gaultier. De schoenen voor deze show zijn ontworpen
door Miriam van Weeghel voor ‘Janneke Verhoeven’. De visagie is in handen
van ‘Joyce: Make-Up & Alles‘.

We had a transformative year 2010.
We made a decision.
And the decision is to go for it!
Go for it seriously.
So we got down to serious business!
Literally (For a while)

Now most of the business and paperwork is done.
So in 2011 it’s time to FLY again!

Happy Ascension day everybody! Hope you’re enjoying your extra long weekend? We are!

Anyway, here are some of our upcoming thingies you might be interested in;

Next week (May 23rd) we’ll be doing our first festival of the season ^_^. After Monsieur Plastique has been flown in from Istanbul (he had to DJ for Pink Amsterdam, check it out at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=114298968610032&ref=ts ) we’ll be hitting the streets to go to 7th Sunday Festival ( http://7thsunday.nl/ ). There we’ll be strengthening the DJ sets of some of the best there are! For instance; Joost van Bellen, Brodinski, Mehdi, D.I.M., Erol Alkan und so weiter!

After that we’ll be hopping around at OHAF in club Paradiso (RAAAAAWR)

A week after that (May 29th) you can buy our art. Mar-vellous, Laura de Zanger and Les Avant Nu will be selling their art @ TRASH & TREASURES: Sale (in “De Kring” on Leidseplein http://www.facebook.com/TrashandTreasures )

We can also tell you that we’ll be doing Nuit Blanche, Art Amsterdam and a few more other things which will keep secret for a while longer.

The other project we’re working on is for Nuit Blanche, and international contemporary art event, exhibited all over Amsterdam during the night of June 19th. Les Avant Nu will have their own area somewhere in the city! We won’t be telling you much about what we’re exactly going to do, because we’re still in the conceptual/discussion phase But now worries, it’s going to be what you expect of us: exorbitant, strange, excessive, with a thought, reckless, happy and just, well, Les Avant Nu!
